Hot Stone Massage
What is Hot Stone Massage?
Hot Stone Massage combines the benefits of the thermal applications with the strokes of massage using the stones to create a deep, relaxing treatment.
The heat of the stones warms the skin, preparing the muscles so the therapist can work deeper, relieving tension and tightness where the stones are applied.
Based upon traditional Swedish massage techniques, the stones are used to massage the client and may also be placed in positions on top and underneath the body to create a therapeutic and holistic effect.
Basalt is the most common type of rock used in Hot Stone massage and is extrusive, which means that it forms when molten lava cools following a volcanic eruption. Sedimentary rocks you may find in lakes and rivers may look prettier but not ideal and they often crack over time.
Benefits of Hot Stone Massage
One Stroke with a Hot Basalt stone is said to be the equivalent to ten manual strokes, therefore quicker results.
Hot Stones allow for a deeper application of pressure.
Hot Stone massage causes the body to sweat, increasing sebum production naturally moisturises the skin.
